Auditing

Audited courses carry no academic credit and are not recorded on a Reed College transcript. Expectations for participation vary by course. Registration is required. The ability to audit a course is available only at the instructor’s discretion (with their written approval) and on a space available basis. Certain courses at Reed are not eligible to audit. These include—but are not limited to—independent study, HUM 110, and thesis. Auditing MALS courses is restricted to MALS alumni. Auditing physical education (PE) courses is limited to Reed College students who have recently completed their thesis but still require PE credit in order to graduate.

Current Reed College students may register to audit via the Audit Registration Form (available in the Registrar’s office).

Community members may apply to audit through the Office of Admission. If approved, these auditors are limited to one course per semester. The audit fee is $100 per semester per course, plus any additional course fees. The audit fee is waived for full-time Reed College faculty and staff (including their spouses/domestic partners) and alumni; however, these auditors are responsible for any additional course fees. Course auditors do not have access to student, campus, or community services. Course auditors are subject to all of Reed College’s policies, including the Honor Principle, and Reed College may dismiss a course auditor from attending a Reed class at any time.
